THOMAS POVEY

Thomas Povey is interested in the use of natural materials like stone, glass, lime and clay to create works which convey a sense of timelessness and permanence. His pieces look like they have been unearthed from the desert sands. They look like relics from a lost civilization. He has developed unique processes that involve molten glass, sedimentation, carving, burial, drowning, weathering and unearthing. The resulting forms look eroded by time. He make small, numbered editions of the works, but due to the unusual manufacture process each sculpture in the edition has unique character.
